Ng Boon Gay not guilty of corruption

Ng Boon Gay, Ex-CNB chief in the center of sex-for-contract case, was acquitted of all corruption charges today. If found guilty, he could have been jailed up to five years and fine of up to $100,000 for each of his four charges:

"District Judge Siva Shanmugam agreed with the prosecution and impeached the credit of star witness Ms Cecelia Sue, with regard to the nature of her relationship with Ng Boon Gay. He said he did not find Cecelia Sue "as someone who could easily be taken advantage of". "Graphic description of sexual encounters" and other evidence in the form of text messages also point to an ongoing intimate relationship between Ng and Sue, he said, contending that they had a "consensual relationship at all times"."

14-day trial was closely watched in Singapore. Ng Boon Gay was charged in June 2012 for obtaining sexual favors between June and December in 2011 from IT Sales Manager Ms Cecilia Sue. Ms Sue was the sales manager of Hitachi Data Systems from June to November 2011. She joined Oracle Corporation Singapore in December in 2011 as its senior sales manager. In exchange, Ng was accused of furthering the business interests of the two IT companies in their dealings with the Central Narcotics Bureau.

While former anti-drugs chief Ng Boon Gay's sex-for-contracts trial is coming to an end, another high profile sex-for-contracts trial is about to begin. former Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) chief Peter Lim will be in court in February 2013. According to the media, the trial was originally scheduled to start in mid january, but will now start in February as the lead prosecutor Tan Kiat Pheng has to undergo surgery following an injury.

Lim faces 10 counts of corruption in a sex-for-contracts case similar to the case involving former anti-drug agency chief Ng Boon Gay. Key witness Ms Pang Chor Mui from Nimrod Engineering is expected to take the stand.
